Locke and Key season 2 has finally arrived to answer all of our questions and, of course, pose some new ones that keep us guessing until the very end. The Netflix original series debuted its second season, which raises the stakes for the Locke family.

In the first season of Locke and Key, the family relocates to the Keyhouse in Matheson, Massachusetts, where their late father used to live. Once there, the Locke children — Tyler (Connor Jessup), Kinsey (Emilia Jones), and Bode (Jackson Robert Scott) — find magical keys.

Although three Locke siblings explore the keys and their uses (including taking a trip inside each of their minds), adults can’t seem to remember the keys or the magic they have experienced. Nina (Darby Stanchfield), still grieving the loss of her husband, can’t even recall walking into a mirror.

Magic like this seems like something one would never forget, but the adults in Locke and Key aren’t able to make magical memories. However, in Locke and Key season 2, as the game changes over and over, those memories become available thanks to a certain key.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Locke and Key season 2.

What is the Memory Key in Locke and Key season 2?

Even though adults start to lose their ability to remember magic around the age of 18, which happens to Jackie, the introduction of the Memory Key grants those losing those memories the opportunity to unlock things from the past and hold onto present events.

The Lockes ultimately use the Memory Key on Duncan (Aaron Ashmore) once they find the important piece of the puzzle, and he’s then able to remember key information (pun intended) from the past and help the siblings with their fight against Dodge. It’s quite a coveted and useful key that’s hot commodity in season 2.

Locke and Key season 2 concludes with Tyler nearing 18 and facing the fact that he could soon lose his ability to remember magic and the keys. He takes a trip on his own before college and says he won’t use the Memory Key, but only time will tell if he will really choose a normal life over a magical one with Kinsey and Bode in Locke and Key season 3.

Until season 3 premieres and we find out whether Tyler opts to use the Memory Key, make sure to check out Locke and Key season 2 now on Netflix!
