It’s officially Locke and Key day! This supernatural series is all about magic, meaning sometimes there’s a lot of fun and sometimes it takes a seriously dark turn. As we saw in the first season, people are killed off in this show rather suddenly, and we see more deaths in the second installment.

Locke and Key season 2 debuted on Netflix in the early hours this morning, and it’s bound to be another hit. Coming off the cliffhanger in the season 1 finale, the Locke family believes there’s peace again in Matheson, although a threat still looms over them.

As we know, the Lockes didn’t actually kill Dodge (Laysla De Oliveira) in season 1 like they thought they did, and instead they sent Ellie (Sherri Saum) through the door. We also find out in the season 1 finale that Gabe (Griffin Gluck) is actually Dodge in disguise, posing a major threat to Kinsey (Emilia Jones) in particular as they’re in a relationship as season 2 opens up.

Spoilers ahead for Locke and Key season 2.

Dodge is able to take over other people’s bodies, and we find out that some people can also be possessed by a demon. This is the case for Eden (Hallea Jones), and she becomes Gabe’s assistant in his plan to create his own key.

Kinsey figures out Gabe’s true identity towards the end of the season, and she and her family fight against him to finally kill Dodge once and for all. Unfortunately, in the midst of their plan, Tyler’s (Connor Jessup) girlfriend Jackie (Genevieve Kang) gets possessed.

Though Jackie is a demon, Tyler is determined to bring her back somehow and thinks he can with the Alpha Key. In the penultimate episode, he uses the Alpha Key on her, and it looks like it works. The demon seemingly leaves Jackie’s body, and the two share an emotional embrace. Jackie is no longer a demon, but unfortunately, the Alpha Key also kills her.

Jackie dies in Tyler’s arms, and Tyler realizes that you can’t just kill a demon with the Alpha Key, you also kill the person who’s hosting the demon.

Is Jackie actually dead in Locke and Key season 2?

Although we’ve had some fake-out deaths in Locke in Key, it does look like Jackie’s death is, unfortunately, final. For one, we see the body. There’s no ambiguity about what happens to her, as we see her die in front of Tyler and it doesn’t look like she could come back.

Also, the paramedics come to take Jackie away and they say the cause of her death is an aneurysm. Because medical professionals are involved and they examine her body, it’s safe to say she is dead.

With Jackie, this isn’t the case of throwing her into the Omega Door. Tyler kills her, accidentally, while trying to get the demon out of her.

This is extremely sad for Tyler, and Jackie’s death likely plays into the reason why he wants to forget about the keys. In the Locke and Key season 2 finale, he tells Kinsey and Bode that he won’t be using the Memory Key, even though he’s about to turn 18 and will soon lose all of his memories of the magic. Instead, he wants to leave it behind him and start fresh. We can’t say we blame him.

Locke and Key season 2 ends on another cliffhanger, but fortunately, at least we know Locke and Key season 3 is in the works! We’ll be sure to keep you updated once we hear anything about a release date.
