PG Halloween movies on Netflix: Little Monsters (1989)
Children usually don’t become best friends with the monsters that live under their beds, but Brian in Little Monsters isn’t a scaredy cat, he loves a bit of mischief. In this Boogeyman tale, he develops a bond with Maurice, a monster who travels in and out of children’s dreams leaving them shaking and quivering in their sleep.
Brian joins in on the fun, allowing Maurice to take him into the netherworld and create his own trouble in people’s nightmares. There are, however, consequences for his actions as with all things. Though Brian couldn’t have possibly ever thought that he’d be turning into a monster himself, but that’s exactly what’s happening to him in this classic.
It’s no longer fun and games for Brian when it becomes clear that what he thought was a joke is coming back to bite him in the end. It’s a horrifying lesson to learn, one kids might take to heart, be careful of who and what you associate with, it could just be your undoing if you don’t.
PG Halloween movies on Netflix: Labyrinth (1986)
In Labryinth, 16 year old Sarah learns the hard way that you should be careful of what you wish for. When she wants her little brother Toby gone, the Goblin King Jareth (played by David Bowie) grants her wish. Like with most kids frustrated by their younger siblings, it was a wish she didn’t actually mean but now she only has 13 hours to rectify her mistake and she’ll have to do so by solving a labyrinth.
This movie, featuring puppets created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, is an ’80s classic that’s been a fantasy staple for lovers of the genre for years. For more Halloween movies and shows on Netflix, though they aren’t all rated PG, click to the next page.
