PG Halloween movies on Netflix: A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting (2020)
The Boogeyman is a prominent feature in children’s horror stories from long told tales to movies and shows on the small and big screen. Disney had their own tussle with the frightening creature in 1999’s Don’t Look Under the Bed and had a bit of fun with the myth with the character of Oogie Boogie in The Nightmare Before Christmas.
A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting is Netflix’s crack at the Boogeyman lore. When Kelly Ferguson loses a child in her care to the Boogeyman, the sitter gears up for an all out battle to get the child back. It’s Halloween night and all the ghouls she thought were make-believe turn out to be real. With the help of a secret society of monster hunting babysitters, Kelly plans on giving the Boogeyman what he has coming to him.
PG Halloween movies on Netflix: Gnome Alone (2018)
Gnome movies are a bit niche but Gnomeo & Juliet as well as Sherlock Gnomes were hits with kids. The fantasy comedy Gnome Alone captures that magic but with a battle against the rabid Troggs at the center of its story.
When Chloe moves to Detroit with her mother, things aren’t looking that great for her and the discovery that the house is full of gnomes doesn’t help matters. Neither do the Troggs, fantastical beasts that infest the grounds.
If she doesn’t stop them, they’ll wreak havoc all over the city. Of course, that’ll mean teaming up with the gnomes and possibly sacrificing any hope at having a normal high school experience, but it’s either that or let the Troggs run amok.
While this movie is certainly not the scariest entry on this list of PG Halloween movies on Netflix, the spookiest season of the year is certainly one of the best times to indulge in whimsy.
