Haunted

Release Year: 2018

Directed by Jan Pavlacky

Haunted is a paranormal anthology docuseries that focuses on horror stories told by a person or a group of people. Three seasons are streaming on Netflix right now. Each season has six episodes that have relatively short runtimes between 20-30 minutes. Netflix released Haunted Latin America this year too, which currently has one season with six episodes.

Many viewers are skeptical of some of the stories featured in the series because they resemble popular horror films released before the alleged date on which the events occurred. There is little to no corroborating evidence to back up the stories. Each episode has a person or persons sharing a paranormal tale with a group of family and friends. Some people hearing the story already know of some of the events, while others hear the information for the first time. Reenactments occur while the person shares their personal story.

Whether you believe the storyteller or not, Haunted is scary in several different ways. There’s one episode where a woman relives the story of her serial killer parents. The ‘serial killer parents’ is a shocking story for many reasons, but critics state there’s no police report or news story relating to the events, making viewers question the show’s true story claims. But in my opinion, Haunted is a scary watch still.
