Don’t F**k With Cats: Hunting An Internet Killer

Release Year: 2019

Directed by Mark Lewis

Don’t F**k With Cats: Hunting An Internet Killer is a three-part docuseries about how the murderer Luke Magnotta was tracked down and arrested in 2012. Magnotta’s capture is thanks to the help of some very internet-savvy people who were horrified at the videos he posted in 2021 of him killing various cats. Do not watch this docuseries if you are sensitive to animal cruelty because it shows most of the murder and describes it in great detail. It’s difficult to see and watch even if you assume you aren’t sensitive to animal cruelty.

Don’t F**k With Cats is a different type of scary than most true crime docuseries because the initial murders involve animals, not people. It’s fascinating to watch the story behind the ordinary people rooting out a killer by using the same internet tools available to everyone. The main folks, Deanna Thompson and John Green stayed calm and followed the facts during their investigation. What’s fascinating is that they suspected Magnotta would turn to kill people, which he did, and Magnotta was bold enough to put the videos online.

Tracking down Magnotta took forever because he seemed to travel quite a bit and live in different countries, so there weren’t many authoritative attempts to stop Magnotta. But Thompson and Green were persistent, and there is a happy end to this scary story.
