Pretty Smart debuted its hilarious first season on Oct. 8, and we’re already obsessed with the laugh-out-loud sitcom starring Young & Hungry and Hannah Montana favorite Emily Osment. We can’t get enough of the larger-than-life characters, most especially Jayden.

Michael Hsu Rosen stars in Pretty Smart as Jayden, an online influencer who’s endearingly self-centered and an absolute joy to watch. From his witty one-liners to emotive interpretative dances, we all have to admit that we want a friend like Jayden.

However, it’s not all smooth sailing for the online celebrity. Toward the end of the first season, Jayden announces to the group that he’s enduring hate from a troll in his comments. The troll starts a hate trend about his ankles, which he’s particularly insecure about.

When he doesn’t handle ankle-gate with grace, he soon realizes that his troll isn’t some anonymous person hiding behind their social media account. In fact, Jayden knows exactly who his troll is and works to find out why they are blackmailing him.

Who is Jayden’s troll?

It doesn’t take long for Jayden to realize the online troll who instigated drama about his ankles and continued with blackmail is none other than his estranged mother and former manager, Jasmine.

In order to explain the sordid details of his falling out with his mother to newcomer Chelsea, Jayden performs an emotional but extra interpretative dance as narrated by Claire, Solana and Grant.

The dance details the pressure his mother placed on Jayden as a young child model, which prompted him to later cut her out of his live. Unfortunately, becoming his troll was Jasmine’s sneaky way of coming back into Jayden’s life.

Who plays Jayden’s mom in Pretty Smart?

Jayden reunites with Jasmine, played by fan-favorite actress Ming-Na Wen, at their local bar when she distracts him with a high-profile sponsorship. She styles him in different outfits for the brand, but they soon fall back into dangerous old patterns.

Finally, Jayden stands up to Jasmine and tells her that he would be open to having her back in his life, but not as a manager — just as a mother. Even though it will be a tough road ahead for Jayden and Jasmine to reestablish a healthy relationship as mother and son.

Pretty Smart viewers might recognize Ming-Na Wen from movies and shows such as Mulan, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., ER, Stargate Universe, The Mandalorian and the upcoming Star Wars series The Book of Boba Fett. Hopefully, Wen will reprise her role in the future.
