Best Netflix shows: Breaking Bad

5 Seasons (All on Netflix)

Created by Vince Gilligan

Starring Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Bob Odenkirk, Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, RJ Mitte, Betsy Brandt

Arguably, after HBO’s The Wire, Breaking Bad is the best TV series of all time.

There’s nothing quite like the magic Vince Gilligan and his team of writers were able to capture and produce week after week. The performances by Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, and the rest of the cast are amazing, but the writing team never gets enough credit, as far as I’m concerned, in terms of the compelling story they were able to make work with all of AMC’s issues.

Breaking Bad is about a high school chemistry teacher, Walter White (Cranston), who, after being diagnosed with cancer, starts to cook meth to pay for his treatment and leave some money for his family after he dies.

There are plenty of flaws with the premise of the show, and, for a time, the plot gets a little muddy. However, if you’re able to persevere, the ending is well worth the wait.

In fact, Breaking Bad almost didn’t make it past the second season, not because of the quality of the show, because people weren’t watching. Netflix actually saved Breaking Bad, to an extent, because people were able to find the show, binge-watch, and gear up for the upcoming seasons.

Throughout its five-season run, which resulted in a ton of critical recognition and awards, Breaking Bad gained popularity as more and more viewers were able to catch up to the show in time for the finale.
