In Marvel’s Daredevil, Charlie Cox stars as Matt Murdock, an attorney who roams the streets at night as a masked vigilante, fighting crime. An accident with radioactive chemicals leaves Murdock blind as a child, but the exposure to the chemicals enhances his other senses.
Like most superheroes, Murdock is just trying to help make things better, make life better, stop crime, but it’s Murdock’s tactics that set him apart from other superheroes. He’s not afraid to “go there,” if you know what I mean.
Fighting. Dodging bullets. Kicking butt. Taking names.
That’s what Daredevil is all about! Well, sort of…
The action and fighting scenes are some of the most vicious, brutal, and entertaining, honestly, of any Marvel series or movie. But, the nuts and bolts of the series is in the acting, the story, and the human element of the series. Sure, Matt Murdock is an expert at beating the snot out of people. Unlike any other superhero story, however, Daredevil is able to capture the gritty aspects of crime and the stress it takes on those involved.
Overall, I think that’s what I’ve been most impressed with. These are humans. Matt Murdock is a person before he’s a vigilante. Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), also known as Kingpin, is a human before he’s a crime boss, for lack of a better term. All the characters feel human. They might not always do what humans do, because it’s a TV show, but for the most part, Daredevil feels more real than other superhero stories.
Daredevil season 3 is now on Netflix. The show was canceled after season 3.
