In the drama Gilmore Girls, a single mother, played by Lauren Graham, raises her teenage daughter, played by Alexis Bledel. The series focuses on the mother-daughter aspect of the relationship, along with each character’s respective relationships with friends and dating interests.
While Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel show up some acting chops, when I think of Gilmore Girls, I think of the series as the beginning of Melissa McCarthy’s world domination, which will happen next year with the release of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters. In the series, McCarthy plays Sookie St. James, the weirdest name in normal TV history.
You definitely have to be in a certain frame of mind to enjoy the series. The dialogue is super-fast, witty, and filled with tons of pop culture references. I’d be lying if I said it’s not annoying, but once you get used to it, you can appreciate the many subtle jokes. Time is money, as they say, and the producers definitely get their money’s worth of lines from the stars of the series.
Gilmore Girls lasted seven seasons on the CW. Unfortunately, showrunner and creator Amy Sherman-Palladino left the series after the sixth season because the CW refused to meet her demands about a writing staff, among other issues.
