Is the original Dune on Netflix?

The new Dune movie starring Timothee Chalamet has reignited people’s interest in the franchise, and many people are interested in finding out if the original Dune is available to stream on Netflix.

Arrival director Denis Villeneuve, who also helmed a sequel to another iconic ’80s sci-fi feature, Blade Runner 2049, isn’t the first individual to helm a big screen, a live-action adaptation of the infamous 1965 Frank Herbert novel of the same name. In 1984, David Lynch passed on Star Wars: Return of the Jedi but instead decided to bring his version of Dune to life.

Lynch’s version’s cast included Kyle MacLachlan, Sting, Virginia Madsen, Patrick Stewart, Sean Young, and Max Von Sydow, just t name a few. But, unfortunately, producers and financiers would intervene, and the end result would be a box-office bomb. It did, however, receive a nomination at the Academy Awards for Best Sound.

But since its tragic theatrical run, the remarkable motion picture has gained quite the cult following, and it’s extremely understandably why people excited for the new version would want to check it out.

Is the original Dune on Netflix?

The selection on Netflix is undoubtedly out of this world, and it seems, like the universe, there are endless places for one to explore. But sadly, the original Dune movie is not one of the many movies on the streamer.

While the news of no Dune on the streaming service is a bit of a downer, it is wise to recall that several other outstanding science fiction titles exist on Netflix. There are many excellent options in this department ready to stream, including Space Sweepers, The Midnight Sky, Tribes of Europa, and Another Life, just to name a few.
