What is No Game No Life about?

I wouldn’t be lying if I said that the title defines our protagonists perfectly. Sora and Shiro are epic gamers who can ace any game on point. They have also played against the god of the games and won the game of chess against him.

And now they have been pushed into a world where any obstacles and disputes are settled only through games.

The siblings together are known as team “Blank gamers.” They are popularly known as such because they never fill in their names whenever they play a game — they always leave it blank. The gamers once receive an email that makes them teleport to another world where all they will do is play games to survive.

There is also a fact known to the audience that Shiro and Sora are not related by blood but are step-siblings. Shiro, an 11-year-old girl’s mother married Sora, an 18-year-old boy’s father, resulting in them being step-siblings to each other.

The duo has its own specialties in the anime. For example, Sora is a master of strategies and cold reading, whereas Shiro is good at the logical and calculative parts of the games, which clearly shows us the scope of their winning.

Speaking of winning, the end of season one was very abrupt as per the reviews of the audience worldwide. After the victory in the game, the team, Blank gains authority over the Eastern Federation. However, the members of the Federation want to claim the lands again for which Sora tosses a coin. The rules were pretty simple: If Sora wins, Elkia would get the lands, but if Priestess does win, the Warbeast can do the self-rules and utilize its resources.

And after the coin-toss, it turns to be a draw resulting in neither win nor loss of the lands which went exactly how Sora planned. Toward the end of the season, we see Shine Priestess summoning Old Dues upon the saying on Sora, which brings us to the cliffhanger ending.

Will there be a season 2?

Ever since season 1 of the anime series ended on cliffhanger, people are eagerly waiting for the release of season 2. The uproar for the necessity of the second season has always been there, but the production house has not said a single word about the sequel.

The movie released in 2017 was supposed to be a prequel, and that still drags us in a never-stopping questioning troop. All we can do is wait for the upcoming season and see what the siblings have packed in for us.

The second season of an anime series solely depends upon the popularity or, to be specific, how well season 1 performed. If we go by the search rates of Google and trending rates on social media, it is not denied that the want for a season 2 was very high in 2014 after the cliffhanger ending of the series.

Nevertheless, as the years passed by, the popularity had its declining rate. But it would not be wrong to say that there is still a fandom out there waiting for a new season.

Source material for the next season is available, as seven more manga volumes are still remaining. The latest volume of the manga was released in February 2020. It increases our hope for the next season.

The reason behind the long gap for season 2 is the controversies of the show. After the release of season 1, an illustrator from Japan claimed that the art style in the seventh episode of the first season was copied from his work. The issue created an uproar, which also caused the team to apologize and hereby move on to other projects under the production house.
