Death Note 2 release date updates: Will there be a sequel? When is it coming out?

Death Note, the live-action 2017 film based on the popular manga anime series of the same name, took Netflix by storm with its release a few years ago. So with its huge success, it’s no surprise that many are wondering if Death Note will ever get a sequel and if so when Death Note 2 would be released.

Will there be a Death Note 2?

Yes! According to reports, Death Note 2 is one of 10 Netflix movie sequels in the works! In fact, shortly after its 2017 debut, rumors circulated that the live-action manga anime had been optioned for a sequel in 2018.

Greg Russo, the screenwriter of the movies, also took to his social media to confirm the news revealing to his Twitter followers that Death Note 2 was “consuming a large part of [his] life,” in 2020, so clearly a sequel is happening!

However, we still might have a while to wait until its release.

IMDb has currently marked the project as “in development”, but hasn’t revealed much detail about how far along they are with the follow-up.

Death Note 2 release date prediction

As mentioned, the film is currently “in development” so it’s still going to be a while until we get to see Death Note 2, however, that hasn’t stopped us from taking a guess as to when we could possibly expect a follow up to the epic 2017 movie.

Although this might be a bit too hopeful for us, we actually think there’s a big chance that the sequel will be released on the five-year anniversary of the first movie, on July 20, 2022! Needless to say, we could be completely wrong, considering as of September 2021, there’s no new information or updates out there about the movie release date, so take this information in with a grain of salt!
