If you just started watching Midnight Mass on Netflix, you probably have a lot of questions.

Mike Flanagan’s new Netflix original series asks a lot of questions of itself and characters before it starts revealing some answers. Early in the series, we learn something is on Crockett Island that shouldn’t be.

What is it? How did it get there? All of that is revealed over time. If you can be patient, you’ll learn the answer to all those questions.

If you can’t hold out any longer or you just need a little refresher of everything that happened, we shared that the monster in Midnight Mass is below!

SPOILERS ahead for Midnight Mass!

What is the monster in Midnight Mass?

There are lots of hints about something terrorizing the beings and people of Crockett Island. In the first episode, Ooker (Louis Moffat) makes a comment about a giant winged thing in the sky and mistakes this thing for an albatross, the giant sea bird.

Later, something kills all the cats on Crockett Island, and the dead cats wash up on shore after a big storm.

Several people in town are also killed by something, and we have no idea what it is.

Finally, it’s revealed that the monster in Midnight Mass is actually an angel.

An angel? Yep! And, it’s horrifying.

The angel saved Monsignor Pruitt (Hamish Linklater) while he was lost in Israel. Pruitt drank the angel’s blood, and it saved him (sort of!). It actually got him hooked on the sweet stuff, and it turned him into a vampire of sorts.

Pruitt also becomes a young man again, and he returns Crockett Island with the angel to share the angels gifts. Sounds like a great plan, right?

Eventually, after ingesting enough blood of the angel, Pruitt can no longer go in the sun, and things get absolutely wild.

The real monster in Midnight Mass

The real monster in Midnight Mass is Bev Keane (Samantha Sloyan) !

This might be a hot take, but she seems quite worse than the angel, Pruitt, and the rest of the bad people in this show.

Bev uses her power and status in the church to rally the whole town against the few who question Pruitt, the angel, and their plan.

Bev also kills Joe Collie’s dog, and it’s horrible. She is literally the worst.
