Being Frank is a 2018 comedy featuring Jim Gaffigan as Frank Hansen. Directed by Miranda Bailey, Being Frank premiered at South By Southwest in 2018 followed by a wider release in 2019.  The film also stars Logan Miller and Samantha Mathis.

Being Frank utilizes Jim Gaffigan’s average Joe stand-up persona, the brand viewers of The Jim Gaffigan Show are accustomed to, as it puts a twist on the typical kid going off to school trope.

Being Frank received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, but solidifies itself as a solid comedy that lets the viewer sit back, relax and laugh without much investment.

Being Frank follows a father and son pair as they navigate their lives after Frank’s son, Phillip, is accepted to NYU. Frank is devastated once he leaves because he wanted his son to stay local and attend a state school. After settling in at school, spots his dad at a party he attends. In a strange sequence of events, he uncovers a secret his father has kept hidden from his family for 19 years.

Armed with this knowledge, he attempts to use this information against his father. Will his plan work? What is Frank’s secret? What consequences will Frank face? Being Frank answers these questions and more through a comedic lens.
