“I burn for you”, said by Simon Basset, delivered by the immaculate Regé-Jean Page has become an iconic line from Bridgerton, the Netflix original series which was all anyone could talk about last Christmas.

When Bridgerton was released in last year, it took the streaming world by storm, quickly breaking records all over the world with over 82 million households views. The characters were endearing, and their tale gripping, in a swirl of multitudes of beloved tropes. Be it the fake-dating trope, friends-to-lovers, forced-marriage, or mutual-pining, the show had it all!

Regé-Jean Page’s charismatic character – Simon Basset, a.k.a, Duke of Hastings – instantly became a well-loved character for his seemingly frivolous exterior, but the soft corner he had for his friend-turned-lover, Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor.

Did Regé-Jean Page win an Emmy?

When Regé-Jean Page’s Emmy nomination was announced, many fans hoped that after he announced it could mean a return of his character in the second season, but that might not be as Shonda Rhimes had already made it clear that from the start, his character was to appear only in the first season.

For his performance, he has already won the MTV Awards for Breakthrough Performance and Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series at the NAACP Image Awards, so when the Emmy nominations for 2021 were announced, it did not come as much of a surprise (except maybe a pleasant one!) to anybody that Regé-Jean Page was nominated for Lead Actor in Drama Series.

But unfortunately for his fans, Josh O’Connor’s performance in The Crown shone through and the award for Lead Actor in Drama Series went to him. It was well-earned, however, and among the other nominees for the award were Billy Porter, Sterling K. Brown, Matthew Rhys, and Jonathan Majors.

Fear not, for however, he is still scheduled to appear on Netflix, just not as Simon Basset anymore! He will also be joining Ryan Gosling in the Russo Brothers’ next project, The Gray Man.

Bridgerton season 2 is coming to Netflix soon!
