Lucifer season 6 has received some mixed reviews, especially with the Lucifer season 6 ending. Just how did the series come to an end?

Throughout Lucifer season 6, we had one mystery to solve. Why would Lucifer abandon Chloe and his daughter? It just didn’t seem likely, did it? This was a character who had been through some major development, and one thing he always said was that he wouldn’t be like his father.

He theorized that he had to die. Someone had to have taken him from Earth to make it so he couldn’t be around.

Meanwhile, Ella learned the truth about Lucifer and co., Amenadiel realized the apocalypse was coming, and Dan needed to find a way to get to Heaven. Let’s take a look at the Lucifer season 6 ending.

Lucifer realizes his calling

Rory spent the whole season accusing Lucifer of being a deadbeat dad. She was angry, and her anger had helped her time travel. She didn’t really know why she time-traveled to before Lucifer disappeared, but while there, she considered killing her father.

It’s a good thing she didn’t. Rory managed to help Lucifer survive Aug. 4, making sure he didn’t disappear on that day. However, he still had to go. There was a reason for her still being in the past. It was close to the Lucifer season 6 ending that we learned just why she time-traveled after all.

Rory wasn’t there to stop Lucifer from leaving. She was there so Lucifer could figure out his calling, something that God knew. Lucifer was meant to save the souls in Hell, helping them find redemption and release their guilt. He managed it with Dan (more on that in a moment) and he managed it with Rory. Without Rory helping him realize his calling, he’d never go to Hell to help the souls down there.

Rory released her anger and made Lucifer promise that he would return to Hell to help the souls. She headed back to her own time, where Chloe was on her death bed. Chloe had managed to keep everything from Rory for so long and died with Rory by her side, passing into Heaven…and eventually to Hell since, well…

Lucifer remained in Hell, focused on saving all the souls down there. He does it in the most ingenious way possible. He sets up a room like Linda’s office and he becomes the therapist for the souls.

Dan moves onto Heaven in the Lucifer season 6 ending

We knew eventually Dan would have to get to Heaven. The question was how that was going to be possible. After all, he was stuck on Earth as a ghost after Rory flew him up from Hell.

Dan thinks Vincent Le Mec is part of the reason for his guilt, so goes to visit Le Mec in jail. When there’s a tiger in jail, Le Mec manages to escape jail. To help protect a guy at a store, Dan ends up accidentally possessing Le Mec and he can’t get out.

Lucifer suggests Dan goes to visit the people he loves the most. That leads to Dan (in Le Mec’s body) going to see Trixie finally. He pretends to be a friend of Dan’s, using it as an opportunity to apologize for the mistakes he made when alive. Trixie makes it clear she’s not angry at her dad. She loves him, and she doesn’t view him as a flawed man. He was her father.

This was the piece of guilt left behind. Dan felt guilty for leaving Trixie, but she isn’t angry at him. Her words help him move on to Heaven, where we see him with Charlotte.

Amenadiel becomes God

At Maze and Eve’s wedding, Ella announces that she knows all about Lucifer, Amenadiel, and the secrets being kept. She’s angry, although eventually understands that it’s not about the secrets being kept. Everyone’s hearts were in the right place, and she’s able to forgive Lucifer and everyone for their secrets.

Her announcement does lead to Amenadiel finding out that the apocalypse really is happening. He needs to check that out, and it turns out that angels have been answering prayers in some terrible ways. Heaven needs God.

Lucifer doesn’t want to be God, though. Who will be? Amenadiel realizes that he can do it all. He can be there for Charlie and he can be God at the same time. He doesn’t need to do it all alone. He can have help from Chloe, who returns to work as a detective, and from his brothers and sisters.

We get glimpses of Amenadiel as God. He’s the one that helps Chloe when she arrives in Heaven to make sure she heads to Hell to be with Lucifer.

It is a mixed season, but the Lucifer season 6 ending at least sees Chloe and Lucifer together. For eternity.
