Lucifer season 6 will hit Netflix on Sept. 10, 2021. Now that Lucifer (Tom Ellis) is God, however, where does the show even go from here?

Naturally, details for Lucifer season 6 have been kept largely under wraps. After all, no one wants the big finale to be spoiled, so to speak.

What we have learned is that the final season will see Lucifer struggle with his new job as God.

As Lucifer co-showrunner Joe Henderson said in an interview with EW, the question is:

"“When the dog catches the car, what does the dog do with it? That is a question worth exploring for a season.”"

Lucifer season 6 plot synopsis

Based on the trailer for the new season of the Netflix original series, the answer better come quickly for the new Almighty. The longer reality goes without a God, then the more it destabilizes, meaning the actual end of the world. Then, there’s the addition of Rory (Brianna Hildebrand), a rebel angel who seems to want the vacant throne of Hell all to herself. Or to destroy Lucifer to destroy reality. Someone wants to mess something up here.

In addition to this, we see Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) officially join the LAPD. At the end of season 5, he seemed to have considering the option. After Dan’s (Kevin Alejandro) death, it looks like Amenadiel is all in.

Speaking of Dan, he’s still in Hell. Though, as we learned at the end of season 5, it is possible for a soul to leave. The showrunners confirmed that, despite his death, Dan will be involved in season 6. In addition to his front camera work, Kevin Alejandro directed two episodes of the final season. So, even if Dan’s not on the screen, he’s there in spirit. In addition, Woodside will also be making his directorial debut this season as well.

More questions to be answered when season 6 is released include: are what does Chloe (Lauren German) do now that she’s quit the force and Lucifer is God? Do she help him be God? Plus, Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) and Eve (Inbar Lavi) are currently an item along with Maze’s shiny new soul. Not to mention that poor Ella (Aimee Garcia) still doesn’t know that Lucifer is actually and legitimately the Devil (or, well, the Big Guy now).

Basically, there’s a lot of stuff going on with Lucifer season 6. With 10 new episodes to watch, it’s going to be a wild ride to the finish line. It wouldn’t be Lucifer without everything going to pieces before things come together in the end, right?

Lucifer season 6 will premiere on Netflix on Sept. 10.
