Netflix shows like Seinfeld

Seinfeld is coming to Netflix sometime soon, but Wednesday, Sept. 1, marks the beginning of another month that the classic ‘90s sitcom is not appearing on Netflix.

This is the third straight month that fans are unable to watch the series since the show left its previous streaming home, Hulu, on June 23.

By now, fans have an unsatisfied itch that has yet to be scratched by Netflix. Here’s to hoping that October 2021 brings an end to the misery.

The show might be about nothing, but Seinfeld fans, diehard and casual alike, need something. With that in mind, here are 5 TV shows currently streaming on Netflix that can scratch that itch.

New Girl

Replicating the tried and true approach of an ensemble cast, New Girl stars Zooey Deschanel, Max Greenfield and Jake Johnson in a comedic, if not outright zany at times, sitcom centered around a group of friends who live together in a loft.

Seinfeld fans will consider Johnson’s character, Nick Miller, to be the outcome of George and Kramer morphing into a single person. He goes against the grain of society but fits well within the group.

Greenfield’s character, Schmidt, fills the Jerry void. He is a well-adjusted, self-proclaimed ladies man who is a bit too obsessed with cleanliness. The only difference is, Schmidt is far from playing the straight-laced role that Seinfeld did. His antics fill each episode, whether in the form of one-off gags like the “D*******g Jar” or entire story arcs like in season 2 episode 3 when he attempted to convince a bunch of college girls that he is Mitt Romney’s son.

Deschanel’s character, Jess Day, is once described by Schmidt as, “looks like a drawing of a best friend that an eight-year-old would make.” Her innocent outlook on life plays into her role as the conductor for the comedic orchestra playing around her. Overall, New Girl is the closest thing to Seinfeld on Netflix right now.

All 7 seasons of New Girl are available for streaming on Netflix.
