While we were certainly bummed out that The Umbrella Academy season 3 wasn’t on the list of new arrivals on Netflix in September, the news today gets us excited. We originally shared that filming was close to wrapping, and the day has arrived.

The cast of the show took to Instagram with Steve Blackman, showrunner of the series, sharing the video. There’s a common theme in the video, and it’s all about the two-for-one on hot dogs…nope, sorry, wrong message! It’s all about The Umbrella Academy season 3 filming wrapping.

Filming took a little longer than normal due to pandemic protocols. However, the cast was hard at work throughout that time, and now it’s just the waiting game.

When will The Umbrella Academy season 3 come to Netflix?

Does this mean we’ll get The Umbrella Academy season 3 in 2021? That’s probably still not going to happen.

The show now needs to go through the post-production stage, and this can take months. There are a lot of visual effects to add into a show like this. Just look at The Witcher season 2, which wrapped filming well before the summer but isn’t coming until December due to the VFX needs. We’re expecting something similar here.

Early 2022 is certainly possible. And by that, we’re meaning February or March 2022. It could be a little later, though, so we’ll keep an eye out.

The video does tease some returning characters. We got to see all seven Hargreeves siblings, although is Ben Umbrella’s Ben or Sparrow’s Ben? Or both? Hargreeves himself was there, which means we get to see a lot more of him during the third season. Colm Feore was even in costume, which suggests that he’s going to be around until the very end. While shows film scenes out of order, it’s rare for the finale not to be the last episode filmed.

Ritu Arya was also there. She plays Lila, and it suggests we’ll see more of her in the third season. Will she choose the Umbrella Academy’s side eventually or always pick The Handler?
