Funny high school movies on Netflix

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

This movie is a classic. Most people know of this movie even if they have never watched it. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is an iconic movie that is quintessential ’80s.

The cast alone screams ’80s: Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, Jeffrey Jones, Jennifer Grey, Edie McClurg, Charlie Sheen, Ben Stein, Kristy Swanson, T. Scott Coffey and Louise Anderson.

This John Hughes film follows Ferris, a high school slacker who wants to ditch a day of school. It’s too nice of a day to be stuck inside. He fools the bumbling principal and pulls one over on his dimwitted parents. The only one to see through his charade is his sister.

Ferris and his friends tour Chicago and he somehow makes it home before his parents do. Then he reminds the audience, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

Moxie

Moxie is a great film of empowerment for high school students, and it’s directed by none other than Amy Poehler.

Vivian is inspired by her mother’s rebellious past and helps others in her school have a voice where they otherwise may not be able to be seen. When a new student arrives, Vivian is forced to take a hard look at behaviors in her school. The publishing of an anonymous zine brings light to sexism in the school as well as other issues teens face. This allows Vivian to unexpectedly start a movement that allows her to make friends with people she might not have ever met.

The film had overall positive reviews, and it is an inspiring great film.

Poehler also stars in the film with Hadley Robinson, Alycia Pascual-Peña, Lauren Tsai, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Nico Hiraga, Sydney Park, Josephine Langford, Clark Gregg, Ike Barinholtz and Marcia Gay Harden.
