One Day is based on David Nicholls’ novel of the same name. Nicholls also wrote the screenplay for the film.

The film is a bit hard to explain because it’s a bit confusing, but the romance is definitely there. After Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess) hook up after their college graduation, but then they decide not to begin a relationship. Over many years, Emma and Dexter meet on the same date as their college graduation.

Although One Day received poor reviews and has some major flaws, like some of the character’s accents, the story is generally entertaining and romantic. And, if you’re looking for a decent, sappy romantic drama, One Day definitely checks all of those boxes.
