Netflix romance movies: Good on Paper

Release Year: 2021

Directed by Kimmy Gatewood

Starring Iliza Shlesinger, Ryan Hansen, Margaret Cho, Rebecca Rittenhouse

Good on Paper is one of the best romantic comedies to premiere on Netflix this year, mostly because it’s not like other rom-coms. If you’re looking for a traditional love story and happy ending, this movie is not it. But if you’re looking for something original, check Good on Paper out.

Written and starring comedian Iliza Shlesinger, the film starts off as your regular rom-com as protagonist Andrea meets a guy named Dennis. Although Andrea isn’t attracted to him at first, she’s a struggling actress and he’s a rich businessman and they really do get along as friends. Plus, Dennis insists on paying for everything and gifting Andrea lavish presents, so in a way, it’s kind of a win-win, right?

Soon enough, Andrea and Dennis take their relationship to the next level and begin dating. And while everything is perfect for a little bit, things start to unravel when Andrea discovers Dennis might not be who he says he is. As it turns out, he might be lying about everything.

The best (or worst, depending on how you look at it), part about Good on Paper is that it’s based on a true story! Shlesinger went through a similar experience, which is why she decided to make this movie. The film premiered on Netflix on June 23, 2021 and is totally worth the watch.
