The Girl Next Door is a classic early 2000s romantic comedy. The film follows a high school student named Matthew (Emile Hirsch) who has a bright future ahead of him but doesn’t find much reward in his life. That is, until a porn star named Danielle (Elisha Cuthbert) moves in next door. It doesn’t take long for Matthew to fall in love with Danielle, which, as you’d expect, brings upon tons of issues.

There are so many funny moments in The Girl Next Door, especially with Matthew’s two best friends Klitz (Paul Dano) and Eli (Chris Marquette), who serve as comedic relief throughout the film. I would say this is a comedy before a romance, however there are plenty of sweet moments between Matthew and Danielle. It’s an unlikely coming-of-age story that will have you entertained from front to finish.

The Girl Next Door premiered in theaters on April 9, 2004 and was released on Netflix just this year. It’s definitely worth the watch for anyone looking for something both funny and heartfelt.
