Sex Education season 3 is well on its way to our Netflix screens very soon. The third season of the popular original series is slated to have an entirely different vibe to it as new authority seems to be taking the reins in these Moordale High hallways, and it definitely isn’t something that we or the students of the high school are used to.

And in speaking of the pupils of Moordale High, our two favorite students, Otis Millburn and Maeve Wiley, have been with us from the start. We’ve watched their friendship blossom into the adorable but complicated relationship that it is today with the two simultaneously overcoming and succumbing to the many awkward moments that they constantly face as friends. Last season, one of those awkward moments left fans wondering where their friendship stood and if it would ever develop into an amorous relationship.

Well, it looks like Sex Education creator Laurie Nunn answered some of our burning questions about Otis and Maeve’s relationship, and you’re certainly going to want to hear this! Everything to know about where the pair’s relationship stands in season 3 is right here.

Warning: Spoilers for Sex Education season 3 are up ahead.

Will Otis and Maeve get together in Sex Education season 3?

Don’t get your hopes up just yet because, according to The Guardian, it looks like these friends may remain just friends for a while. Nunn revealed that the possibility of the students dating is relatively low, commenting that she most likely won’t go that route in the upcoming season.

"“In TV shows, when the people that you want to get together actually do, then usually it’s like you burst some kind of bubble. I always feel like it’s the thing you think you want, but you don’t actually want.”"

Perhaps Laurie Nunn is actually protecting us from the heartbreak that could follow if Maeve and Otis decide to get together. After all, the two have hurt each other tremendously before. Who’s to say that more pain won’t follow once they are in a romantic relationship? We certainly don’t want that!

It may be a bummer that season 3 won’t be the one where our OTP gets together, but there is still a chance that things may blossom in the future when Otis is a little more mature and Maeve is much wiser.

“You can’t fall in love with the person of your dreams when you’re 17,” Nunn expresses, “They should probably wait till they are older and wiser.”

Maybe season 4 is the season that will bring these two together, or maybe season 5 is the lucky season? Either way, fans of the original series are going to have to hold off on any Otis and Maeve hopes for now. But in the meantime, maybe they can find solace in watching scenes of these two in every episode of Sex Education streaming on Netflix. It’s sure to do the trick.
