Netflix is adding 23 new movies and shows this week

A new week is here and while there isn’t a bunch of new stuff coming to Netflix this week, there are a few gems to look out for. From a new Netflix Original series to a new action movie to another season of a very popular animated show, the streaming service has a little something for everyone this week.

The new series, The Chair, is probably the biggest thing coming out this week. It hits Netflix on Friday, Aug. 20, and stars Sandra Oh, Bob Balaban, Everly Carganilla, Jay Duplass, Mallory Low, Nana Mensah, and David Morse.

The series follows Ji-Yoon Kim, the first woman of color to be the chair of a failing English department at a major university. While it’s great to be at the top, she also has to meet all the demands that come with the job and try to turn around the department and make it a success.

Her first major issue is to deal with a professor that has a scandal hanging over his head.

Sweet Girl starring Jason Momoa and Isabel Merced is the biggest movie coming to Netflix this week. It also comes out on Friday, Aug. 20. The movie follows a husband who, after his wife dies, becomes set on getting revenge against the people who caused her death. But he also has to be a father to his daughter, Rachel, who is also dealing with her mother’s loss as well.

Getting to the people who caused her death is not that easy when the people responsible are a major drug company.

The film also features Micheal Raymond-James, Amy Brenneman, Justin Bartha, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Adria Arjona

This week also brings season 6 of Winx Club to Netflix on Sunday, Aug. 15. This is not the new Netflix Original live-action version, but the animated one. Season 6 originally aired in 2013 on Nickelodeon and is now finally making its way to Netflix.

Season 6 focuses on the Trix joining with Selina, a young witch from Earth who is a childhood best friend of Bloom. Together, they must find Eldora, the fairy godmother, if they want to seal the Legendarium forever. As luck would have it, she’s the only one who knows how to do it.

Netflix is also adding Walk of Shame starring Elizabeth Banks on Monday, Aug. 16, and The Loud House Movie on Friday, Aug. 20.
