Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal

Murdaugh Murders is a timely Netflix docuseries recounting the double homicide of Paul and Maggie Murdaugh. Maggie’s husband and Paul’s father, Alex Murdaugh, were convicted and sentenced to two life sentences without the possibility of parole for murdering his son and wife in March 2023.

A three-part docuseries, Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal chronicles the downfall of the once-prominent Murdaugh family in Low Country. Before Alex murdered his family members, the family was already beginning a downward spiral that began during a tragic boating accident that resulted in the death of teenage Mallory Beach.

Later, Alex Murdaugh was also charged with dozens of financial crimes, and the family was also repeatedly named in the mysterious death of another teenager, Stephen Smith. Plus, the Murdaugh’s long-time housekeeper Gloria Satterfield died after allegedly falling down the steps of one of the Murdaugh family properties. The family was plagued by countless tragedies and suspicious circumstances.

The Netflix doc does its best to recount each one and identify how all of these events together led to the fateful night when Alex Murdaugh killed his wife and son. A Southern Scandal features first-hand accounts from several of the people who were there during the boat crash and close to the Murdaugh family.
