Ward kills himself in Outer Banks season 2

In the middle of the season, John B is arrested for killing Sheriff Peterkin. He’s almost killed in jail after Ward hires a hit on John B. They need him to stop saying that Rafe killed Peterkin.

Finally, the ballistics come back on the gun used in the murder of Peterkin, and they have Rafe’s fingerprints on them. After Barry betrays Rafe, Ward’s only son is arrested for the murder.

Ward can’t let Rafe go down for this. He knows they’ll be coming for him next. The goose is cooked. So, Ward does what he can to save Rafe. He makes a confession tape, and then he blows himself up on My Druthers when Shoupe and the law come for him.

The only problem in his plan is that Sarah and the rest of the family saw what happened. It’s an emotional moment watching Sarah see her father’s death. It kicks off some major problems in John B and Sarah’s relationship.

It doesn’t last long, though, and neither does Ward being dead.

Ward faked his death in Outer Banks season 2

I don’t know if I ever really thought Ward was dead. I mean, it was shocking when it happened because of the magnitude of the explosion. It definitely caught me off guard, but nothing about Ward made me think he would go down without kicking and screaming. We’ve already seen what a planner he is.

It was pretty obvious when Rose received the letter that Ward was still alive. Still, seeing his face on the ship after they drugged Sarah is a pretty big shock.

I love this twist. I’m all for it! I think it opens up so many possibilities for the future. Obviously, the Pogues could get the SBI or FBI involved and let them know that Ward is alive. But, that would likely mean that the government would seize the gold and the cross and everything else Ward has. Instead, the Pogues need to steal that back before Ward gets caught. That’s the endgame. That’s the plan!

Hopefully, we’ll get to see that happen in Outer Banks season 3!
