If you’re into fantasy adventure movies, The Green Knight is just for you. This movie adaptation is based on the Arthurian story, “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.”

It all begins when the Green Knight, a green supernatural being, steps foot into King Arthur’s court. He creates this tricky game for any knight who dares to play. The Green Knight taunts King Arthur, leading King Arthur to accept the Green Knight’s challenge. Sir Gawain, King Arthur’s nephew and loyal knight, quickly takes the place of King Arthur to show his loyalty.

The game goes like this: Behead the Green Knight with an ax, and in return, the Green Knight gets to do the same back a year and a day later. Not really thinking things through and more focused on protecting the King, Sir Gawain accepts the challenge.

Fast forward a year and a day later, Sir Gawain sets out on a heroic adventure to capture the Green Knight. Sir Gawain believes that by confronting the Green Knight, he’ll prove his worth and honor to his people.

This synopsis sounds interesting and action-packed. If you look at the trailer below, this movie looks like it could have a friendly rivalry with The Witcher because of its quality.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but The Green Knight is not on Netflix. Actually, the movie hasn’t been released yet. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release dates were pushed back.

The original premiere date was set for March 2020 at the South by Southwest film festival. Then, it was to be released in theaters, May 29, 2020. Sadly, those dates were pushed back, but people were still saving hope that it would be released sometime in 2020 or on a streaming service like Netflix.

The official release date is July 30, 2021.

Where to watch The Green Knight

The movie is currently a theater-only release, but who’s to say it won’t end up on Netflix in the future? You’ll have to head to the theaters to watch The Green Knight for the time being.
