Is The Last Letter from Your Lover on Netflix based on a book?

Recently, Netflix has released many great new features, including the new romantic drama The Last Letter from Your Lover. Subscribers of the streamer have truly enjoyed this film as it is already on the Netflix Top 10 list.

The film was written by Nick Payne and Esta Spalding, with Augustine Frizzell directing. The story follows a young journalist who discovers love letters from the 1960s that tell of a star-crossed romantic story. Set in contemporary London, as the journalist, now on a mission, sets out to discover the identity of the lovers and how the story ends.

Felicity Jones plays Ellie Haworth, the young journalist. Joe Alwyn and Shailene Woodley portray Lawrence and Jennifer Stirling, respectively, who lived in the ’60s. He was a successful industrialist while she was a socialite with an idyllic life. Callum Turner plays a financial journalist, Anthony O’Hare, who is doing a story about Lawrence.  The film also stars Nabhaan Rizwan and Ncuti Gatwa as colleagues of Haworth.

Is The Last Letter from Your Lover based on a book?

Netflix has the market for movies and series adapted from books, an ever-growing list. The Last Letter from Your Lover is another movie that is now added to that list. The film is based on a novel by Jojo Moyes, who also wrote Me Before You, written in 2011.

The story will remind you of The Notebook a bit, but there are two love stories in this film: one in the past and one in the present. The letters that tell the story are short and sweet sentiments that will stay with the viewer, possibly sparking inspiration to write their own.

In a cloud-like dream, we see this story unfold and imagine ourselves in the 1960s having our own romantic summer vacation on the French Riviera.
