Christmas movies on Netflix: The Christmas Chronicles 1 & 2

The Christmas Chronicles movies have been big hits for Netflix. These two movies are beautifully done and will put any scrooge in the Christmas mood.

The movies star Kurt Russell as Santa Clause and Goldie Hawn as Mrs. Claus. In the first film, Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis) hatch a plan to see Santa Claus. When things don’t go as planned, they have to help Santa save Christmas.

The second film takes place two years later and finds Kate, who is now 13 and acting her age. She is displeased that the family is celebrating Christmas in Cancun. She runs away to go back home but doesn’t know that she has a stowaway, Jack (Jahzir Bruno), her mother’s boyfriend’s son. The two are transported to the North Pole by a mischievous elf, Belsnickel (Julian Dennison). Kate reunites with the Clauses and introduces them to Jack. Eventually, Belsnickel wreaks havoc over the village, and Kate, Jack and the Clauses must once again save Christmas.

Christmas movies on Netflix: Fred Claus

Fred Claus tells the tale of two brothers, Fred and Nick Claus. Nick is full of goodness, and Fred was always jealous of the preference for his brother from their parents. Because of his kind spirit, Nick is sainted, which grants his whole family immortality.

Nick or St. Nick (Paul Giamatti) has to bail his brother Fred (Vince Vaughn) out of jail for his criminal ways. He brings Fred back to his North Pole workshop to begin making toys to work off the debt. This becomes more of a headache than a help, and Nick’s stress is compounded by an efficiency expert evaluating St. Nick’s operation.

Also starring Miranda Richardson, John Michael Higgins, Elizabeth Banks, Rachel Weisz and Kathy Bates, the movie received mixed to average reviews but is a great meld of slapstick humor and heartwarming moments.
