There’s no doubt about it in anyone’s mind that Mel underwent many pivotal life changes in Virgin River season 3. From Jack’s near-death experience to all of the professional and personal upheavals throughout the season, Mel went through it. But what’s next for her in Virgin River season 4?

As previously mentioned, season 3 found Mel wading through the aftermath of Jack’s shooting and navigating various challenges both at work and at home. Mel’s relationships with Doc and Jack were tested in new ways, some that will have a lasting impact in Virgin River season 4.

What will happen to Mel in Virgin River season 4?

After weathering a few storms with Doc at the office, Mel seems to be on even footing with her boss and partner in medicine. Doc no longer looks to be pursuing retirement, though that decision could come back around depending on Hope’s prognosis. Either way, Mel’s in the clear.

Much of Mel’s season 3 storyline revolved around the possibility of becoming a mother. Not only becoming a mother but starting a family with Jack, to be specific. Jack’s cold feet on having more children beyond the twins with Charmaine caused Mel and Jack’s temporary breakup.

Is Jack the father of Mel’s baby?

Of course, Mel reveals to Jack, in the middle of his attempted proposal, that she’s pregnant. But the hits kept on coming as she announced the buried lede: She isn’t sure if he’s the father.

This revelation suggests that she went through with using one of the remaining embryos she and Mark, her late husband, were going to use to have a baby. While we saw her in the fertility clinic waiting room, we weren’t privy to her decision, but this is as good as confirmation.

Clearly, Virgin River season 4 will find Mel dealing the fallout with Jack and, hopefully, enjoying her pregnancy. She certainly deserves to be happy about becoming a mother, no matter if Jack or Mark ends up being the father of the baby.
