Glen Powell from Set It Up
If you have seen Set It Up on Netflix, then you know it’s a romantic comedy about two overworked assistants desperate for a chance to take a break. And what better way to do that than to hook their bosses up with each other so that they are more devoted to each other than their work?
Yeah, even I can see how this will fail epically. But thanks to Glen Powell as Charlie Young and Zoey Deutch as Harper Moore, we actually get a film that shows us not only the ins and outs of dating in a corporate setting, but also the ways in which we try to be the perfect romantic partner. As far as Powell’s character goes, there are plenty of moments when you just think “ugh,” but he is also the kind of guy who really does try to do the right thing.
In the movie, he starts out with the perfect girlfriend, but over time you see him realize that what he thinks he wants isn’t actually what he wants. And watching him grow and evolve is enough to have us going, “I’ll take that date now.”
There is a humor to Powell that we love, while also giving us a glimpse at someone who has intense focus and dedication, whether that focus and dedication involves his work or his romantic life. And the fact that he not only tries to help others find love, but also looks for love himself is proof that he would definitely be the kind of guy you bring home to mom.
