Is Rent on Netflix?
Rent is one of the best-known musicals in theatre history, telling the story of a group of artists and creatives in the East Village in the late 1980’s. In turn based on the opera La Boheme, it’s a seminal work for anyone who loves musicals.
The 2005 film brings back several of the cast members from the original Broadway musical. They include Anthony Rapp (now on Star Trek: Discovery), Idina Menzel (Frozen), Jesse L. Martin (Law & Order, The Flash), and Taye Diggs (All American), just to name a few. Directed by Chris Columbus (the Harry Potter franchise), it’s definitely a spectacle.
The movie, like the musical, includes classic numbers such as “Seasons of Love” to the title track and “Take Me or Leave Me.” With such an impressive cast and memorable songs, it’s one of those things that movie buffs should check out at least once, especially since the stage production may not be accessible where you are.
So is this groundbreaking musical on Netflix or do you have to go elsewhere to find it? Here’s all the information you need.
Is Rent streaming on Netflix?
Unfortunately, Rent is not currently available on Netflix. That includes the 2005 movie and the stage productions. We don’t know if the company could get the streaming rights in the future, but there are other options (see below).
Other musicals on Netflix, though, include Les Miserables with Amanda Seyfried, and the Ryan Murphy musicals The Prom and Glee. If you just want to revisit the 80’s, you can also check out things like Mystic Pizza and Cobra Kai, which is based on the Karate Kid franchise.
Where to watch Rent
If you’re an Amazon Prime member, Rent is included with your membership and you can stream it for free as many times as you want.
The film is also available for rental or purchase on the usual video-on-demand (VOD) suspects like iTunes, Amazon Video, and YouTube.
