Happy first weekend of June! If you haven’t heard, there is an outstanding list of new movies and shows on Netflix coming soon.

A number of new shows were added to Netflix this week. We saw new seasons of Alone, Summertime and Feel Good.  Lucifer still holds the No. 1 spot on the Netflix Top 10, with Ragnarok and The Kominsky Method also holding top spots this week.

We shared the five best shows on Netflix this weekend (June 5-6) below.

Best shows on Netflix to watch this weekend

1. Sweet Tooth

On Friday, June 4, the fantasy drama Sweet Tooth was released on Netflix. This series is narrated by James Brolin and follows Gus (Christian Conery), who is half-human/half-deer. The series is based on a comic of the same name by Jeff Lemire and was created for Netflix by Jim Mickle.

Gus befriends a loner named Jepperd (Nonso Anozie), and they trek across what is left of America after the “great crumble.” The incident that took place 10 years before this story begins created a hybrid of human/animal babies who are feared and hunted by humans. Their adventure takes them to places unimagined, and they encounter many others along their journey, some as friends and others as foes.

The series also stars Adeel Akhtar, Will Forte, Dania Ramirez, Neil Sandilands, Stefania LaVie Owen and Aliza Vellani. Check out the trailer below for this fantasy adventure series.

2. Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story

The second season of Dirty John, aka Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story, is now available on Netflix. This true crime anthology saw much success in its first season. This season told the tale of John Michael Meehan, aka Dirty John, a criminal, con-artist, and manipulator who preyed on vulnerable women.

Season 2 will tell a new tale and feature new cast members, Amanda Peet and Christian Slater. In addition, this season will break the story of Betty Broderick, who appeared to have an idyllic life with her husband Daniel until they didn’t.

The case surrounding Betty is widely known in the US, but I won’t give anything away in case you have never heard about it. It is a true crime story that took place in the ’80s.

If true crime is your thing, be sure to check this one out.

3. Kim’s Convenience

The Canadian sitcom, Kim’s Convenience, tells the story of a Korean Canadian family, the Kims, who run a convenience store in Toronto.

Fans were excited to hear the series was renewed for seasons 5 and 6, but the co-creators have since decided to move on to new projects, which effectively ended the series after season 5. There will be no sixth season.

Enjoy this final season of the series on Netflix this weekend!

4. Downton Abbey

Fans of the ITV and PBS series, Downton Abbey, were excited to hear the news that all six seasons of the series would be released on Netflix on June 1.

Downton Abbey is a historical drama set between 1912-1926. The period series is full of the lavish life of the Crawley family and their domestic servants. The fashions are exquisite, and the storylines will draw you into the family. You will celebrate their triumphs and weep at their heartbreaks.

The series features an all-star cast that includes Hugh Bonneville, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Dan Stevens, Allen Leech, Lily James and Elizabeth McGovern, which is a shortlist of the talent involved in this series.

If you enjoy period shows on Netflix, be sure to give this one a watch.

5. Portlandia

Sadly, Portlandia will be leaving Netflix on June 10. This gives you some time to re-watch or watch it for the first time.

The sketch comedy series is set and filmed in Portland, Oregon, and pokes a bit of fun at the city’s reputation for being a hipster haven. The series stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, who also created the series. The series originally began airing in 2011, and its final season aired in 2018.

The guest stars list is extensive and includes Steve Buscemi, Kristen Wiig, Rose Byrne, Aimee Mann, and many more. This is only a small list of the guests throughout the eight seasons.

In the series, Armisen and Brownstein play many different characters in the sketches, and many of the guest stars had recurring roles. Portlandia won many awards and received favorable responses from TV critics.  Be sure to check this one before it’s gone.

Have a wonderful weekend with the best shows on Netflix!
