Netflix cancels Jupiter’s Legacy, orders spinoff series

Jupiter’s Legacy has come to an end on Netflix, but this is not the end of the universe based on the Millarworld project.

Instead of renewing Jupiter’s Legacy for season 2, Netflix made the call that Jupiter’s Legacy “will not continue as an ongoing series,” according to a report from Deadline.

It is sort of confusing, but it appears the world of Jupiter’s Legacy will live on without the main cast, including Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb, Ben Daniels, and more.

Netflix has ordered Supercrooks, another Millarworld project and Netflix original series, that will effectively take Jupiter’s Legacy’s place in the lineup.

Jupiter’s Legacy canceled at Netflix

It’s pretty surprising that Jupiter’s Legacy has been canceled at Netflix, basically, this quickly. Jupiter’s Legacy season 2 seemed about as a sure thing as any Netflix show we’ve seen so far.

Although it wasn’t received as well as Netflix might have expected, there seemed to be a rather large fanbase. It was the No. 1 show on Netflix for a while.

But, we all know Netflix has a high bar with its shows, and Jupiter’s Legacy might not have lived up to the hype.

Based on the investment Netflix made in acquiring Millarworld, it makes sense that Netflix would continue to make shows in this world. And, that’s what appears to be happening with Supercrooks. 

It sounds like Jupiter’s Legacy could return in the future, but we’ll just have to see what happens.

Supercrooks release date

Supercrooks is the spinoff of Jupiter’s Legacy, and it’s based on the comic series of the same name. According to Deadline, the series is still in development and details are sparse, but we’re getting a Supercrooks anime coming to Netflix later this year before the show is released.

According to the report, Supercrooks is part of the same world as Jupiter’s Legacy, but it tells the story of a group of supervillains and bad guys that team up for a heist. HEIST SERIES ALERT! And, Deadline is describing it as “the most outrageous crime story you’ve ever seen in your life.”

I can’t wait to see that!

The release date for Supercrooks has not been announced yet, but it’s likely that we’ll see Supercrooks in 2022 or 2023.
