Obviously, in a year when we weren’t really going to the movie theaters to watch the latest new releases, we turned to streaming more than ever as a source of entertainment. And Netflix sure delivered a year full of great entertainment. Whether naturally or as a result, the streaming service boasted some of the top titles of the year, such as the critically acclaimed biopic Mank.

Based on the life of Hollywood screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz, Mank stars Gary Oldman as the titular writer as he works to complete his script for Citizen Kane in the 1930s. The culture of the film industry at the time is reevaluated through Mank’s point of view during the turbulent making of one of the popularly deemed greatest movies of all time.

From top to bottom, Mank is the kind of movie that’s destined for success in all arenas. Critical acclaim quickly arrived, though the film holds an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which denoted mostly positive reviews. Mank received the most nominations at the Academy Awards with 10, including Best Picture and Best Director, but ultimately won for Best Cinematography and Best Production Design. If Old Hollywood tales are your taste, Mank is the one to watch.
