Best shows on Netflix for May 29-30

Lucifer

Fans of Lucifer have been anxious for the latest season to release. On May 28, Netflix released the second half of Lucifer season 5, and it immediately went to No. 1 on Netflix’s Top 10 TV shows list.

The series started when the devil became bored of hell and moved to LA to open a nightclub. He meets a homicide detective on the LAPD and begins helping as a consultant. The series is based on the DC comic character from The Sandman comic.

The series stars Tom Ellis, who plays Lucifer, the Lord of Hell. He is joined by Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro, D. B. Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Scarlett Estevez, Rachael Harris, Kevin Rankin, Tricia Helfer, Aimee Garcia, Tom Welling and Inbar Lavi.

The series is currently in its fifth season, which was supposed to have been its final, but it was renewed for a final sixth season in 2020.

Below is the trailer for the first season.

Ragnarok

The Netflix original series Ragnarok released its second season recently, and viewers have propelled this series to the No. 2 spot on the Netflix Top 10 TV shows.

This fantasy drama is inspired by Norse mythology set in the fictitious town of Edda in Norway. This town is experiencing severe climate change brought on by industrial pollution caused by factories owned by the Jutul family, who are not what they seem. They are now challenged by a teenage boy name Magne who has learned that he is the embodiment of Thor and starts the battle against those destroying the planet.

David Stakston portrays the reincarnated Thor who must battle to save planet earth. Additional cast members include Jonas Strand Gravli, Herman Tømmeraas, Theresa Frostad Eggesbø, Emma Bones, Henriette Steenstrup, Gísli Örn Garðarsson and Synnøve Macody Lund.

It is a bit of a twist on traditional Norse mythology giving a new slant to the story of Thor.

The Kominsky Method

The Kominsky Method recently released its third and final season on Netflix.

Academy Award winner Michael Douglas portrays Sandy Kominsky, a man who once had his brush with fame and is now navigating life as an acting coach.  Douglas stars alongside Alan Arkin, Sarah Baker, Nancy Travis and Kathleen Turner in the drama.

The series is created by Chuck Lorre, who is responsible for great series like The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Mom, Dharma & Greg, and Two and a Half Men. But, this series isn’t a light-hearted as those works mentioned. It is a look at aging and the struggles people experience. The Kominsky Method is still full of humor and tells an interesting story.

With its amazing cast, this is one you should definitely check out.

High on the Hog

High on the Hog is Netflix’s new documentary that combines a history, travel and food show into one magnificent production.

The series is based on a book of the same name by food historian Jessica B. Harri. The limited four-part series considers what created African American food that has become American food and shows deep respect for those who were formative in its creation.

Traveling to Benin, West Africa, and in the US, South Carolina, Texas, Philadelphia and New York, the series looks at what had made up the African American foods and the ties to Black History.

It is a unique concept that gives another deep look into food, culture, and history, making it a great one to check out and learn a little something new.

Girl from Nowhere

The Thai-language series Girl from Nowhere released its first season on GGM 25, a Thai digital channel, and Netflix picked it up for its second season that was recently released.

This anthology series revolves around Nanno, a girl who transfers from school to school, uncovering and exposing the hypocrisy she discovers at each school. Every school is different, but the problems are the same. Gross boys, mean girls, and teachers hiding secrets. Nanno uses her charm to uncover what everyone is hiding and isn’t afraid to expose them all.

Each episode is a standalone story about the new school she attends, and who doesn’t love a good revenge story? Check it out!

Have a GREAT weekend and enjoy some downtime by streaming some great shows on Netflix.
