Lucifer season 5 part 2, episode 12 recap: The ultimate prank

Kevin Alejandro portrays Dan Espinoza, and he’s a very complex character. He’s never had the best luck, yet is the most positive one in the series. Well, Lucifer season 5 part 2, episode 12, titled “Daniel Espinoza: Naked and Afraid,” tortures the already tormented character even more.

Spoilers ahead if you are not caught up on Lucifer! Watch season 5, episode 12 before reading on.

You have to admire Dan Espinoza. We have already named Mazikeen the most misunderstood character on the show, but I believe the title Dan is the biggest character development.

When we first meet Dan, he’s in with the wrong crowd and making all the wrong choices. But, eventually, Dan breaks away from that.

Dan faces the consequences, owns up to his actions, becomes a great father to Trixie, and remains one of Chloe’s closest friends. In between all of this, Dan continues to be handed the short end of the stick time and time again.

On one hand, Dan is partially to blame for his initial treatment of Lucifer, but Lucifer has also been teasing and pranking Dan from day one. But who would have seen this ultimate prank coming? Not me, that’s for sure.

Lucifer season 5 episode 12 recap

At the office, Lucifer spots Dan and heads straight towards him, to tease him, of course. Dan, however, doesn’t react the way he used to. He straight-up tells Lucifer that he no longer knows how to act around him now that he knows Lucifer is the actual Devil.

Lucifer sarcastically reassures Dan that nothing has changed, he’s still the same guy, “charming” and “beloved,” while Dan is still “useless” and “tolerated.” Sorry, Dan! We love you, but we have to laugh when Lucifer cracks jokes at your expense!

Will Lucifer ever give Dan a break? We don’t know, but not today, that’s for sure!

In this episode, Dan is sent on a wild goose chase. He tries to work a case with a former friend who screws him over and leaves him hungover and naked. Literally.

Now, this is obviously a filler episode. Still, it’s one of my favorite episodes in the season; I mean it!

It’s an hour of surprises, twists, and pure fun nonsense. You have to watch it for yourself, trying to describe it will do it no justice.

Toward the end, Dan yells he has no idea how they got to that point. And same, Dan, same. I don’t know how Lucifer managed to get everyone to work together (there were so many people!).

After a shootout that had us believing even Maze was shot, Lucifer surfaces, and those around him stand up. Bring out the Oscars, everyone deserves one for pulling off the prank of all pranks in TV history.

Lucifer celebrates with a party at his club. He tells Dan the prank cost him over $5 million dollars and every penny was worth it! And his reason for the prank, besides Lucifer’s history of teasing Dan? Because Dan shot him when he learned Lucifer was literally Lucifer.

Will there be another prank in Lucifer season 6? We doubt Lucifer can top this, but hey, maybe Dan can get his revenge and pull off a prank of his own!
