Does SPOILER die in Lucifer season 5 part 2?

If you thought Dan’s journey had been rough so far, you were not prepared for what Lucifer season 5 part 2 had in store for the character! None of us were.

The second half of the season was not too kind to Dan, to say the least. But did he die, as well? Spoilers ahead if you are not done binge-watching all of season 5.

Poor, Dan! From divorce, co-parenting, getting demoted, meeting the Devil, you name it! Everything in the book happens to Dan! And now, you can add death to the list. But his death is unlike any other we’ve seen on this show before, or any series, for that matter.

Dan Espinoza is portrayed by Kevin Alejandro. The character is Chloe Decker’s ex-husband and Trixie’s father. All in all, he’s an involved dad and a good friend to Chloe. Still, Lucifer has never been friendly with Dan.

Lucifer has teased and pranked Dan from the first day they meet. Lucifer even pulls the ultimate prank in season 5, episode 12, “Daniel Espinoza: Naked and Afraid.” Before this prank, Dan deals with a worse fate earlier on in the season when he meets God. But, despite all the clues we failed (or refused)  to see, we were not prepared.

Who kills Dan in Lucifer season 5 part 2?

We all remember when Dan found happiness again with Charlotte Richards, aka Goddess aka God’s wife. So imagine Dan’s horror when he makes the connection. Better yet, imagine God’s horror.

Being on Earth has changed God in some ways, but he still has control of his powers (at least in this episode). As Dan apologizes to God for “dating his wife,” God smiles and tells Dan all is fine and that “everything is as it should be.”

God’s smile is very charming (this is Dennis Haysbert, after all), but we soon realize things are all but fine.

In a blink-and-miss-it moment, Dan’s body explodes. Literally. His bloody parts are everywhere and Lucifer stares in horror. But just as quickly, Dan is back and scratching his head, not sure about what just happened.

Lucifer confronts God, who tells him no harm no foul because Dan is back together again. Wow. Well, that’s one way to go!

So yes, Dan did die for a moment there, but hey, if God says all is well, that’s how it is! But if only this had been it.

Does Dan really die in Lucifer season 5 part 2?

Spoilers ahead!

I’m afraid so, Lucifans! Dan dies in Chloe’s arms. He is killed while alone on a case, and the saddest part about it all is Trixie’s broken heart! I’m still in a bit of denial about it all. There was not a dry eye in the room! Everyone realized just how important Dan was to them, and I’m sure they felt terrible taking him for granted —  I’m looking at you Maze and Lucifer.

Lucifer and Maze found Dan’s killers and had their revenge. I’m glad, but it doesn’t bring Dan back. This is going to be a game-changer! Lucifer is fueled with rage over Dan’s death, Trixie being left without a father, and Michael’s betrayal (again), he tells Linda during a session that he’s going to war.

The run for God isn’t the only thing that has changed, though, the series as a whole has. Dan was one of the original Lucifer members. It’s going to be strange not seeing him anymore.
