Did the Lucifer season 5 part 2 trailer just tease a Deckerstar breakup?

After teasing the trailer’s arrival, Netflix finally dropped the Lucifer season 5 part 2 trailer on April 30 and it was definitely worth the wait!

The debut trailer tees up the arrival of Dennis Haysbert’s God and it seems his arrival is, as expected, going to stir up a lot of feelings for Lucifer. As we see through a series of scenes in the trailer, it looks like Lucifer and God have a lot to work through and dear ol’ dad doesn’t seem impressed by the life Lucifer has made for himself on Earth which is likely to come up when Lucifer and God end up on Linda’s couch for a therapy session!

The trailer also drops a few major curveballs with God’s retirement announcement which seems to set Lucifer and Michael on a collision course, each vying for the chance to take over as God. As seen in the trailer, Michael appears to be gathering support from his fellow angels and war is teased to be coming between the feuding brothers.

If the snippets from the trailer are any indication, it looks like Lucifer and Michael are going to come to blows on more than one occasion including what appears to be an epic battle which they take to the skies.

While the trailer puts a large focus on Lucifer’s relationships with his family, there’s another relationship that also plays a big role in the trailer: his relationship with Chloe. As much as we’d like to say the trailer is filled with romantic moments between the pair, the trailer instead seems to suggest tough times are ahead — perhaps even a Deckerstar breakup!

Will Lucifer and Chloe break up in Lucifer season 5 part 2?

In the closing moments of the Lucifer season 5 part 2 trailer, a clearly distraught and emotional Chloe asks Lucifer why he’s doing this — the “this” in the situation being unclear — to which he replies by telling Chloe that “If I ever said the three words to you, it would be a lie.”

While the context of the scene and conversation is unclear, what is certain is that Chloe and Lucifer’s tear-filled faces and emotional declarations seem to suggest trouble could be ahead for our favorite Netflix couple. Telling your partner you can’t tell them “I love you” because it would be a lie seems like quite the deal-breaker and likely would be in most instances so could the “this” Chloe mentions be a breakup?

There definitely seems to be concern for a breakup between the long-time will-they-won’t-they couple, but surely the pair aren’t going to go their separate ways this close to the show’s end, right? RIGHT?!  Sorry, spiraling here at the thought alone of a Deckerstar breakup!

If there is one thing that Lucifer has taught us, it’s that we should never jump to conclusions. So with that in mind, we’re going to look on the optimistic side and hope the tease is perhaps a misdirect and that the upcoming episodes will not feature a Deckerstar breakup.

Lucifer season 5 part 2 premieres Friday, May 28 on Netflix.
