If you would have told me at the beginning of Riverdale season 4 that there was a chance that Barchie could be endgame, I wouldn’t have believed you.

In fact, I wouldn’t have even wanted it to happen.

That was then, and this is now.

After seeing the fifth episode of Riverdale season 5, titled “The Homecoming,” I’m thinking about jumping on the Barchie train. FanSided Entertainment Director and I shared our thoughts on the pair in the most recent episode of the Netflix Life Podcast.

Will Betty and Archie be together in Riverdale?

Spoilers ahead for Riverdale season 5!

Betty and Archie, after years of built-up tension, finally hooked up! And in the most ridiculous way!

After busting some ghoulie skulls in Archie’s childhood home, the pair get sweaty. Then, they need to shower… together. It’s a moment that made Barchie shippers happy and made Bughead shippers cry, probably.

Will this fling turn into something more? That’s what we’ll have to wait to find out.

There’s something about Betty and Archie. I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly, but they have chemistry. Honestly, I think they might go together better than Betty and Jughead. While Archie is kind of a meathead bozo, there’s something sweet — now! not the Red Circle/vigilante stuff —  about his relentless pursuit to save Riverdale. That’s a mission that Betty can get behind.

Betty has always been about saving Riverdale. I think she was always trying to solve these mysteries to rid the town of the freaks causing all these atrocities.

Jughead, on the other hand, is self-righteous. He’s done a lot for the town. But, I’ve always wondered if he’s more about the thrill of the chase and solving the mystery than he truly cared about saving the next victims. Maybe at first, Jughead wanted to help and make a difference, but since the whole G&G thing and the Stonewall Prep madness, he’s been obsessed with connecting the dots.

In other words, Betty and Archie’s values align more than Betty and Jughead’s. It doesn’t mean that Bughead will not work or that this is the last we’ve seen of the couple, but things would be easier for Barchie. That’s a fact.

It’s going to be interesting to see what happens next. Will this fling become something more? Will Betty and Archie start dating?

We learned in the preview for the next episode, which airs on Feb. 24, Archie and Betty are sneaking around and hooking up. It’s no surprise that is happening, but it’s also no surprise that they are worried about what it could mean for Veronica and Jughead.

We all see where this is going, right? Veronica and Jughead are going to be jealous when this all comes out in the open. Conflict! I feel like the old triangles are right around the corner, especially as Archie, Veronica, Betty and Jughead start working together at Riverdale Prep.

Then, we have the whole mystery of the lonely highway, Polly’s likely disappearance, and the trucker. We know Bughead is going to be thrown right into solving that. It means we’re going to see more Betty and Jughead together. Will the romantic feelings return? What if the rumors are true about Jughead’s girlfriend?

There’s a lot to come in Riverdale season 5. I’m not sure if Barchie are really, truly endgame, but it’s starting to look more and more possible with each episode.

This is basically the beginning of the new Riverdale. We know Riverdale season 6 is happening. I’m guessing the show is playing the long game with these relationships, and our emotions. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens!

Season 5 is coming to Netflix later in 2021!
