Checking out! Unfortunately, it’s almost time to say goodbye to Bates Motel on Netflix, friends. All five seasons of this three-time Emmy nominated series will be leaving the streaming service for good next month. And I, for one, am still coming to terms with the news.

According to Glamour, the series is leaving on February 19, 2021.

While this departure has apparently been in the works for quite some time, it’s still hard to hear. As noted by What’s on Netflix, Netflix has held the NBCUniversal license for “the lifetime of the show plus three years,” making the fact that it’s leaving disappointing but understandable, considering NBCUniversal now has their own streaming service.

Starring Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga, this A&E series which ran between 2013 and 2017 is often considered one of the network’s best shows. And if you have the time for a very fun binge session (or two), you should start streaming Bates Motel on Netflix while you still can. Trust me on this!

What is Bates Motel about?

Netflix describes the plot as:

"When his father dies, Norman Bates and his mother open a hotel. But Norman’s precarious mental state drives them down a dark and violent path."

Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s classic horror film Psycho, this spooky series is an origin story for some of the film’s key characters. Namely, Norman Bates and his mother. With that said, this reimagined Bates Motel backstory stands in a league of its own. And if you’ve ever wondered how Norman Bates evolved into the psycho killer he’s so famously known to be, then you’ll definitely want to look into this one.

Where to watch Bates Motel after it leaves Netflix

As confirmed by Bloody Disgusting in January 2020, Bates Motel is set to be released on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s own streaming service. As of right now, it’s not available to stream on Peacock, but perhaps after it leaves Netflix it will be.

All five seasons are also currently available on Amazon Prime Video to buy.
