Netflix adds 13 new movies and shows this week

A new week is here and that means new movies and shows are coming to Netflix. There isn’t a ton of new content coming to the streaming service this week (I think we can blame the pandemic for that), but there’s definitely a little something for everyone.

Whether you’re looking for a new documentary series about spies, a new show based on a Nickelodeon series, or a new season of an animated series based on Jurassic Park, Netflix has you covered.

Who doesn’t have at least a small interest in spies? They’re mysterious, dangerous, and if James Bond is to be believed, have a ton of cool gadgets. Season 1 of Spycraft goes into different spies from the past and how the technology they’ve used has changed over the years. The docuseries comes to Netflix on Wednesday, Jan. 20.

More interested in new series based on a Nickelodeon show? Season 1 of Fate: The Winx Saga hits Netflix on Friday, Jan. 22. The series is based on the animated series that ran from 2004-2009 and that followed a group of girls known as the Winx who turned into fairies to fight villains.

The new series is the same premise; it’s just live-action instead of animated. While the look of the new Winx girls (especially the whitewashing of two characters) has been criticized on social media, it will be interesting to see if this is as popular as the original.

If you’re in the mood for dinosaurs, Jurassic World: Camp Crustaceous is back for season 2 on Friday, Jan. 22. The series follows a group of kids as they attend an adventure camp that just so happens to be on the same island as dinosaurs.

In the new season, the kids are stranded on the island and must face a T-Rex. Yikes! It’s hard enough to find a way off an island with no help in sight, but when there are dinosaurs involved, it gets even scarier.

This week also brings season 1 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba on Friday, Jan. 22. The popular anime series follows Tanjiro and his sister, Nezuko. A group of demons killed their family and now Nezuko is on a mission to become a demon slayer to avenge his family and find a cure for his sister who is turning into a demon.
