The new Netflix movie Pieces of a Woman starring Vanessa Kirby drops tonight

“This is me.” The original drama Pieces of a Woman is coming to Netflix tonight. The film, executive produced by Martin Scorsese, is directed by Kornél Mundruczó (White God) from a script by Kata Wéber and stars Vanessa Kirby (The Crown), Shia LaBeouf (Honey Boy) and Ellen Burstyn (Requiem for a Dream).

You can watch Pieces of a Woman on Netflix at 12:01 a.m. PT on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021.

The official synopsis on Netflix reads:

"A heartbreaking home birth leaves a woman grappling with the profound emotional fallout, isolated from her partner and family by a chasm of grief."

Rounding out the cast are Molly Parker (House of Cards), Sarah Snook (Succession), Iliza Shlesinger (The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show), Benny Safdie (Good Time), and Jimmie Falls (The Last Black Man in San Francisco). The score is written by Academy Award-winner Howard Shore, and Benjamin Loeb serves as DP.

English actress Vanessa Kirby has already garnered immense praise for her performance, winning the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at last year’s Venice Film Festival. Netflix is pushing for Pieces of a Woman in their awards consideration lineup, where it’s expected to be a key player.

You can watch the trailer for the upcoming film below.

I’m most excited to see Kirby’s performance, as she’s delivered a reliably great repertoire on screen and on stage alike. Pieces of a Woman positions her for what is sure to be a breakout year: Kirby is in production for the next installments in the Mission: Impossible franchise (where she’s reprising her role from Fallout) but she’ll be co-starring alongside Katherine Waterston in The World to Come, one of my hotly anticipated films for 2021. From its naturalistic cinematography to its seemingly loose staging, the trailer for Pieces of a Woman is also giving me powerful A Woman Under the Influence vibes.
