2. Dare Me

Yes, we’re cheating again. Dare Me, based on the book of the same name by Megan Abbott, debuted on Netflix on December 31. But hear us out! If you’re into thrillers this will be a show you’ll be itching to watch.

Set in a small suburban town, the series follows best friends Addy Hanlon (Herizen Guardiola) and Beth Cassidy (Marlo Kelly). Their relationship is a constant tug-of-war as they navigate the social waters of their high school as cheerleaders.

When Coach Colette French (Willa Fitzgerald) is hired to whip the squad in shape, the carefully constructed world Addy and Beth have created together begins to fracture. Things worsen when a crime the likes the town has never seen further sends their world off-kilter.

It was never clear who to trust in their school or town. Fueled by sex, drugs, petty squabbles, and grasps for power, the road ahead for them was always perilous. The only options were to get out or resign themselves to a life stuck in bygone glory days as the town fruitlessly tries to reclaim its former majesty.

Unfortunately, Dare Me was canceled by the USA Network after one season but perhaps the show will find a second life on Netflix.
