Chilling Adventures of Sabrina series finale ending explained
Breaking down the ending to the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina series finale
Caution: There are major spoilers from the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina series finale. Ready at your own risk.
Did you have your tissues ready for the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina series finale? I certainly hope you did. What a gut-punch!
It was certainly an epic series finale. So many TV shows have struggled with bringing their stories to an end, but not this Netflix show. It remained focused, entertaining, and engaging all the way to the end.
So, let’s breakdown the bittersweet end to the series.
Sabrina becomes the Void
The finale starts with Sabrina Morningstar coming to tell Sabrina Spellman that the Void is coming. Morningstar dies in Spellman’s arms, and it starts as it means to go on—making it clear that nobody is safe.
While everyone else tries to figure out a way to stop the Void, Sabrina remains at the house. She says she wants time to say goodbye to Sabrina Morningstar, but really, it’s so she can figure out a way to stop the Void herself.
As she picks up the Imp to make her wish, a man shows up at the door. He is willing to trade the Imp for Pandora’s Box. The box will trap the Void inside, but it could take Sabrina with it. She’s willing to make that sacrifice.
However, her aunts, Nick, Ambrose, and the Fright Club are not. When they can’t get Sabrina’s body back from the Void, they get her soul back, putting it in Morningstar’s body.
Well, while most of the Void ended up in Pandora’s box, not all of it did, and Sabrina becomes the void. We see her suck everything in, starting with her alarm clock and ending with Harvey’s dad.
Sabrina learns more about the Void
Sabrina leaves to deal with the problem of the Void. She can’t let anyone else get sucked in.
Of course, Father Blackwood turns up. He can teach her to control the Void.
Don’t worry; Sabrina knows that it’s a trap. He wants to use the Void for himself. So, when the Weird Sisters and Ambrose turn up to get her, it’s not surprising that she makes it clear to Ambrose she has a plan. Unfortunately, Ros and Prudence are sucked into the Void.
Meanwhile, Nick gets Sabrina Spellman’s body and Pandora’s Box from space. They can now get to work to saving Sabrina.
Sabrina makes the ultimate sacrifice on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Over the course of six weeks, Sabrina gets a crash course in everything Void related. She knows how to get Ros, Prudence, and Harvey’s dad back. She also suggests that everyone puts the Eldritch Terrors into the Void.
Quickly dealing with Blackwood, everyone gets to work on the plan. However, it’s clear that Sabrina was never meant to survive draining the Void out of her. Nick traps the Void in Pandora’s Box and gets out before he’s sucked in, too. He’s elated until he realizes that his girlfriend has died.
It should be a happy moment. The world has been saved, but how can you be happy when you’re burying not just one Sabrina but two?
I’ll admit that it felt a little rushed at the end. At the same time, I was so appreciative that it didn’t drag on. I do wonder if this storyline would have been one for 10 episodes if Chilling Adventures of Sabrina part 5 had happened.
Nick swims in the Sea of Sorrows
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina series finale ends with Sabrina sitting in a room that looks like what the Void was. She’s reading a book when Nick turns up.
How could he possibly be there? He went swimming in the Sea of Sorrows.
In other words, he’s killed himself to be with Sabrina for eternity. And that’s now exactly what they have.
It really is a bittersweet but final ending to Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
