What will happen in Cobra Kai season 3?

Cobra Kai season 2 ended with a major cliffhanger. With the Cobra Kai season 3 premiere scheduled for Jan. 1, 2021, fans are wondering what to expect from main characters, Johnny Lawrence, played by William Zabka, and Daniel LaRusso, played by Ralph Macchio.

FanSided talked with the Cobra Kai star heading into Cobra Kai season 3, coming to Netflix on New Year’s Day.

At the end of season 2, Robby, Johnny’s son played by Tanner Buchanan, knocked Miguel, played by Xolo Mariduena, over a rail at school. Miguel fell, landed on his back and was sent to the hospital. We don’t know if he was going to live or die.

Zabka shared where Johnny’s head is at heading into season 3.

“Johnny feels responsible for almost all of it,” Zabka said. “I mean, he was not there for Robby and he was a failed father, and he feels a tremendous amount of guilt for that. Then as far as teaching Miguel, he feels maybe he taught him wrong, to show mercy. Now, he’s questioning a lot of things.”

In addition to Johnny’s son injuring his protege, Johnny lost almost everything he had going for him in the new season.

Johnny had turned his life around by re-opening Cobra Kai and finding a purpose by helping Miguel and the other early Cobra Kais.

Now, Johnny has lost his dojo, thanks to John Kreese stepping in and taking over Cobra. The old-timey handshake agreements and old worldview has burned Johnny once again. And, that’s where things stand for the character heading into the new season. Will he be able to turn his life around again?

“If the show stops here, this is the worst ending for Johnny could ever happen,” he said. “He lost his dojo, the kid’s injured. When we play these roles and play these moments, we’re really kind of living them. Season 3 comes and takes them into a new place, and gives a new, good feeling. It’s been an emotional journey.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m pulling for Johnny to turn things around in the new season.

While the journeys have been emotional on-screen, and off-screen, it’s brought the cast, especially stars Zabka and Macchio, much closer together.

“Billy and I knew right away, as soon as we did our first scene together, that we had some connection beyond us, that the chemistry was just there and so present,” Macchio said. “Then as time has gone on, be it through days like this when we’re talking about it, or at times when we’re grabbing dinner or talking about our families and connecting as actors, as men, as fathers, that has just solidified our friendship to a deeper level.”

How will things play out for Macchio and Zabka’s characters in Cobra Kai season 3? We’ll find out on Jan. 1.

Cobra Kai season 4 is already in the works. Netflix renewed the series prior to the released of the third season.
