When is Outlander season 4 on Netflix?

I know many fans of Outlander who got hooked on the series through Netflix have been eagerly waiting for the streaming service to add Outlander season 4.

Well, good news Outlander fans! Netflix announced that season 4 of the historical romance will drop in the U.S. on January 27, 2021.

This news is very exciting and even Netflix knows they’ve kept fans waiting. Check out the announcement tweet below:

The Starz original show currently has five seasons. Filming for season 6 has been delayed due to the pandemic, but expected to start soon.

Netflix dropped season 3 on December 10. We had previously guessed season 4 would be added in May and season 5 January 2021 respectively. Well, we were way off, but there’s probably a reason.

Why did it take so long for Netflix to add season 4?

Though Netflix continues to bring new shows every month, I think now the streaming service is going to really start feeling the effects the pandemic has had on filming and production. Some shows like Lucifer have gone back to filming, but it’s been a slow process for others or production hasn’t even started.

Outlander season 6 was confirmed a long time ago, but hasn’t even started filming yet.

Because of this, the streaming service is probably spacing out shows they can still add to continue bringing viewers new options. It’s a struggle and balancing act and I wouldn’t want to be in their place right now. It’s been more than a year between seasons 3 and 4 dropping on Netflix, but at least now there’s a new season to look forward to in the new year!

What is Outlander season 4 about?

Without spoilers, here are a few things you can expect to see in Outlander season 4:

Jamie and Claire decide to make a home in the colonies and build a new settlement called Fraser’s Ridge. But of course, nothing comes easy for the Frasers. They’ll face slavery and tensions with the Native Americans. We also get more of Brianna and Roger’s story, meetings and reunions, and so much more drama. In typical Outlander fashion, a lot happens this season!

When will Outlander season 5 be on Netflix?

Even though season 4 hasn’t even dropped yet, I’m sure many of you are already wondering when you’ll be able to watch Outlander season 5. Honestly, it’s hard to say at this point. The pandemic has caused many schedule changes.

There was a six-month gap when Netflix added seasons 1 and 2 together, then season 3. I don’t think it’s going to be that soon for season 5, but a July 2021 date could possible for those who want to be optimistic. But honestly, with filming for Outlander season 6 still delayed and the same going for some of Netflix’s own shows, they will probably want to hold on to season 5 longer. It might not even be added until December 2021 if not later.

Whenever we do get it on Netflix, I’m excited for fans to watch Outlander season 5. Overall it was very well received by fans and it’s my favorite season after season 1!
