Starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, this rom-com classic centers on Maggie Carpenter, a woman who has been a bride but never a wife. Prone to leaving her grooms at the altar, Maggie has made a name for herself in the tabloids. Columnist Ike Graham even wrote about her though his story was less factual than he was led to believe.

With his job lost and his reputation on the line, Ike travels to the small town of Hale, Maryland to write an in-depth article about Maggie. Everyone in Maggie’s life has an opinion to share about her attempts to get married, but it’s not until Ike gets to know her himself that things take a turn he didn’t expect or intend.

Based on the romance book series by Sherryl Woods, Sweet Magnolias centers on three best friends in the small South Carolinian town of Serenity. The three women have a friendship forged in their childhood that has stood the test of time. As Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen deal with the curve balls life has pitched their way, they lean on one another both personally and professionally as only the Sweet Magnolias of Serenity can do.

Sweet Magnolias season 2 is coming to Netflix in 2021.
